What a night! The Spirit Who Swims took home BEST CANADIAN FILM at the 2025 Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival! We screened to a full house at The Rio Theatre as part of Environmental Film Night. It was a pleasure to present the film on the big screen with family, friends and film participants in attendance with an enthusiastic audience, all right by the mouth of the Fraser River, where our film starts and ends. A huge thank you to @thevimff , all our film’s participants, crew, and funders, but above all thank-you to the Fraser River and The Pacific Salmon, for without you…we simple wouldn’t exist.
This film was previously awarded BEST CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY at the BC Environmental Film Festival and won at the Barbados Film Festival as well.
The Spirit Who Swims is a feature length documentary and love manifesto to Salmon, foregrounding its spiritual and material importance to Indigenous peoples along the Fraser River.
